EFFL Calls on Government to Protect Freedom of Expression

Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) stands tall against all those who seek to restrict “Freedom of Expression”. Freedom of Expression it is a cornerstone of human rights.

It its statement on May 3, 2018, EFFL said “the United Nation General Assembly today in 1948 declared this day as ‘World Press Freedom Day’ creating the awareness to celebrate the fundamental principles of Press Freedom, defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia want to join all journalists, media houses and media entrepreneurs in the commemoration of this great day”.

IT further said ‘we salute all gallant men and women of this noble profession for their steadfastness, regardless of the many challenges confronting the profession, especially in Liberia. The EFFL calls on this Administration headed by President George M. Weah to begin to repeal those archaic anti-media laws, and allow the media to do their work void of political maneuvering and intimidations’.

EFFL called owners of Media houses to begin to dignify the work of Journalists in Liberia, by paying them adequately. The group also called on journalists to uphold the sacredness of their profession by reporting only accurate, balance and concise stories. EFFL promised to continue to partner with the Press Union of Liberia in upholding the right to freedom of expression as enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration.
